ART247 is a rich and diverse Arts Center overlooking the Historical Erie Canal in the designated National Historic District of Lowertown Lockport, NY. The Arts center originally founded as Market Street Art Studios by Art Hilger and Sally Bisher has developed a long history of providing arts and cultural education, lessons, and exhibitions to the Greater Niagara County community and beyond, as well as arts learning and studio spaces to regional artists. In January, 2016 ART247 became the guardian to ensuring the missions and goals of the Art Complex continue and grow.

2nd ANNUAL VOICES OF DV ART AND MEDIA EXHIBITION

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. As a means of raising awareness about Domestic Violence, ART247 is hosting the 2nd annual "Voices of DV" Exhibition.

Produced by "ART247 " and "VANITY VIOLENCE" this mixed media gallery exhibition will be held from October 15 to November 13. A reception will be held at ART247, located at 247 Market St., Lockport, NY on October 28, starting at 5:18 pm until 7:18 pm and will include on Location Interviews by Domestic Violence Professionals, Liaisons, and Advocates hosted by WBNY 91.3FM. The event is free and open to the public, with Hors d'oeuvre and refreshments.

The exhibit's goal will be to feature works by individuals whose lives were touched by domestic violence. The pieces - from paintings, to drawings, photography, and mixed media, with accompanying written stories "Voices of DV" - will touch on a range of emotions and experiences by the points of view of those who have been confronted with domestic violence in some form in their own lives, directly, through the direct or indirect experiences of friends or family, and/or by emergency first response experiences.


In many cases, the cycle of abuse relies heavily on the abuse remaining a secret and a topic of taboo in order to enable abuse to perpetuate behind closed doors... we ask you to please listen to the "Voices of DV" - open doors, open discussions, and shine a light on this important topic.

Sponsored by the Lockport Police Department Domestic Violence Unit, YWCA, and ART247 this mixed media gallery exhibition will be held from October 22 to November 13.

A reception will be held at ART247, located at 247 Market St., Lockport, NY on October 28, starting at 5:30pm until 7:30pm. The event is free and open to the public, with refreshments.


The exhibit stems from a contest in which students are asked "What does a happy family look like?" The contest's goal is for students to express what they feel "A Happy Family Looks Like" through their own perspectives, expressions, and creativity. The Exhibition and Reception will display all of the many different types of happy families through the eyes of and produced by students of the Lockport Area. Prizes will be awarded to each grade category: Grades K-4, Grades 5-8, and Grades 9-12
